Deputyship, Probate, Wills and Trusts

This is Iram, she studied at the University of Central Lancashire and got a 1st in her Bachelor of Laws. She then worked as a Paralegal for several years, before sitting in the first cohort of the Solicitors Qualifying Examinations. After successfully completing the SQE, Iram qualified as a Solicitor in September 2021 and took some time out to raise her young family. She then joined Mustoe Shorter in June 2023. Iram works remote and is an inspiration, managing to juggle both being a solicitor and a mum! Iram works closely alongside members of the Private Client team in the office to manage all aspects of private client work, including Wills, Probate and Deputyship matters.

Iram has expansive knowledge of the Deputyship and Probate procedures and handles everything with care and professionalism and has been an asset to the team. Despite working part-time, Iram maintains flexibility to prioritise her clients and ensures matters are dealt with efficiently.

What is Deputyship?

A deputyship is an Order, authorised by the Court of Protection, that enables you to make decisions on someone’s behalf in the event that they lose their mental capacity to manage their own affairs.

There are two types of deputyship applications: Property and Financial affairs which relates to a person’s finances and any property they own and a personal welfare deputy when you may need to make decisions about their medical treatment and care.

Deputyship is different to a Lasting Power of Attorney, a Lasting Power of Attorney is completed by an individual who has mental capacity, whereas a deputy is appointed by the Court if a person has already lost capacity.
